To create own tag categories to a file in a certain location, is a way to get organized.
When I used Cubase I used Media Bay quite a lot, to keep track which state certain projects were in.
- embryo, recording, mixing, finished or similar
- I used the stars grading for this purpose and could filter on that later to get the files that I wanted to work more on.
This Media Bay had a set of folders you could create that were searched.
- this part is already there in US
- but you would want several of those to easily select a set for various purposes
Then you need to match each file in a location with an own attribute that you can name or rate or something.
You can check manual for Cubase on Steinberg.net to see where the idea originate and it's called Media Bay.
I've searched internet for "file organizer" but nothing fit my needs.
Felt this might suite US like hand in glove.
- to quckly setup global filter alternatives
- then extra columns for own made categores/tags.
- and ability to filter on those tags to reduce result list.
- save as result do now with all these parameters
- maybe even take command line argument for which project to use for that session
This was the idea. And US lightning fast file tracking come in handy for yet another purpose to select files.

Tags for files would be a great addition especially if one could then later search based on tags on combine this with the current search GUI.

Thanks for your interest and vote.
Not sure what devs say, but my basic idea I think has to based on a saved search result of a set of files or folders.
- apply a tag to each file
- then you filter out certain files in that scope with the gui
This because the tags applied to a certain file are not part of operating system and has to be saved somewhere and associated with a file.
You might have a list of folders to each such a result saved with it.
In one scenario I thought of a set of files, in a folder(s) or similar, that undergo a certain development over time.
To make it as general purpose as possible devs has to decide how it is done. And possibly more feedback in this thread how people might want to use it to help devs in the process.

Just image if US allowed tags or notes and/or catalogs. Then the user could create tag(s) for a file or perhaps and also a short note. And this would provide additional leverage for your search function that would then be able to search for a tag or content in a note , just as US already can search for content in a file or a file name. Where would the results go? Well I suppose one might start with a search, then possible save the result. Or, one might first create a tag or tags or possibly a container possibly called a catalog, and then begin to add files into that container, probably from results. A saved search might already in effect be a catalog since a save search might produce results from different folders and other locations? Thanks, Steve
