SharePoint: Add option to search for older versions of files and delete them

Our SharePoint stores the last 500 versions of each file by default. We want to be able to clean up those versions for specific work directories and file types and keep only a specific number of versions.
We have files that changed during their creation/development quite frequently, but did not change that often afterwards. We want to identify those old versions by date, so we can free up the space for those very old versions.
