Long running operations should not block user interface

With a large database there are many operations when started take minutes to display data. I'
I mean it would be nice if the gui was better abstracted from the data pull and you could build an estimated time to complete rather than the gui hanging.
At least I'd like ability to Escape/Cancel out of this as if I accidentally expand a folder having forgotten to move context back to summary rather than distribution or duplicates it is painful.

We rephrased your feature request a little. In the first place, I think it would be important that those operations do not block the UI.
